We are often asked - "Why can't you tell me by looking at it what the problem is?"| The following video illustrates why diagnostics is an important element of electronic device repair (courtesy of ToltecMerc - not OUR video)
In the video example above, the device was diagnosed and fixed successfully. In most cases, a motherboard repair has to be started before a tech can ascertain where the problem lies and then be able to offer a client a quote. A repair business worth it's salt can't merely "look at it" and give you an estimate or firm quote due to the variables involved.
Additionally, if a device has had a prior repair attempt (be it DIY or another repair shop) prior to booking it in with us - it would be in your (client) best interest to disclose this before we start our troubleshooting process. It is very disheartening when we get 'throw away' electronics on our bench because then all that can be done is for it to be sent to our e-waste recycler and for the client to rather purchase a new device
When diagnosing a unit for any complex issue, it will require a full strip down to go through a checklist of possible causes of it malfunctioning before we can know what the problem is and quote a client accordingly. For certain common faults we can give you a spoken word estimate up-front but it will be confirmed once a technician has completed bench testing. No guess work here at Micro Fix!
We, in general, cannot give you an exact price when you call or e-mail to ask "The power button on my laptop isn't working. What would it cost to fix it?". A service provider can only determine the repair cost by bringing in or shipping in the device to our premises for a technician to have it on the bench and all the tests (or replacement parts to be sourced) to be completed before a quotation can be produced. However, for certain services such as "I have a part that I want to bring in to be soldered onto a board" - then sure, we can give you a labour fee.
Micro Fix is competent in replacing ports, connectors, console Blu-Ray lasers and many other issues are usually diagnosed here. We do our best to offer economical repair solutions (which on average, is a third of the cost of the equivalent new device at retail) whilst not compromising our standard of only using the highest quality replacement parts available for every device type we work on. You bring it! We fix it!

what we do not accept for service
Please note that we do not offer PCB repairs on every single electronic device out there. There are repair centres with certain specialities dotted around Gauteng. However. Micro Fix can fix a wide variety of circuit boards, so please use the contact form so that we can have a conversation about possibly assisting you.
